Peak season is not won in November. It is won in September, in a sampling room 8,000 kilometres away from the shelf the product will eventually sit on.
When a launch window slips, the factory usually takes the blame. In our experience the factory is rarely the cause. The cause is a calendar that was never built: a design approved three weeks late, a fabric order placed after the mill’s cut-off, a production slot already committed to a buyer who planned earlier. Late orders do not just cost more — they cost speed, and speed is the only thing a peak season cannot buy back.
Why the Calendar Outranks the Negotiation
Buyers negotiate unit price for weeks and then give away far more on expedited freight, air upgrades, split shipments and retail chargebacks. Those costs are not negotiated. They are decided by when the purchase order was placed.
A 2027 program is a sequence, not an event: design, sampling, material booking, cutting, assembly, inspection, packing, sailing, receiving. Each step has a lead time that cannot be compressed by asking harder. The brands that consistently hit shelves are simply the ones that start the sequence early enough that nothing has to be rushed.
The 2027 Window, Month by Month
| Program | Design and sampling | PO placement | Production | On shelf / live |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spring/Summer 2027 retail set | Aug – Oct 2026 | Oct – Nov 2026 | Nov – Dec 2026 | Feb – Mar 2027 |
| Back-to-school 2027 (US, EU) | Nov 2026 – Jan 2027 | Feb – Mar 2027 | Mar – May 2027 | Jul – Aug 2027 |
| Q4 holiday 2027 / e-commerce | Mar – May 2027 | Jun 2027 | Jun – Aug 2027 | Sep – Oct 2027 |
| Core program replenishment | Rolling | 60 – 90 days out | 30 – 45 days | Continuous |
Two conclusions follow from that table. First, the spring 2027 set is being sampled right now. Second, every holiday program for 2027 depends on a decision made before the summer.
The Chinese New Year Cliff: February 6, 2027
Chinese New Year falls on Saturday, 6 February 2027 — the Year of the Goat. Guangdong factories typically close for two to four weeks, and output does not return to full capacity the day the gates reopen: labour comes back gradually, and the first three weeks after the holiday are the most congested of the year.
The practical rule is simple. Cargo should leave the factory before the third week of January 2027. Anything that lands inside the holiday window is no longer a Q1 delivery — it is a Q2 delivery wearing a Q1 label. Note also the smaller disruption ahead of it: the National Day holiday from 1 to 7 October 2026 compresses October output, so material bookings made in September travel better than bookings made in October.
What a Manufacturer Must Prove to Hold the Calendar
A calendar is only as good as the factory behind it. Four things are worth verifying before you sign:
- Sampling speed. First-round samples in five to seven working days, with photographs of the actual unit, not a stock photo.
- Controlled production. In-house cutting, sewing and quality control — not subcontracted steps that extend the chain.
- Reserved capacity. A slot that is booked for you, not capacity that is hoped for.
- Documented milestones. Timestamped reporting at cutting, assembly, inspection and packing, so you learn about a delay while it can still be fixed.
The Bottom Line
Timing is a sourcing strategy, not an administrative detail. Plan 2027 backwards from the shelf date, respect the February closure, and the peak season becomes a scheduled outcome instead of a rescue operation.
